Mike Haywood's Mayflower Paintings
|
These limited-edition prints by noted maritime artist Mike Haywood are now
available from MayflowerHistory.com. Unless otherwise noted, all
prints are Giclée on high quality canvas, 22" x 32", and are limited
editions of 250 prints. Giclée is a fine art reproduction process that
involves spraying special ink onto canvas, giving the look and feel of the
original artwork. Prints are shipped directly from the artist in
England, rolled in sturdy shipping tubes. These canvas prints are
meant to be stretched and framed in the same manner as an original oil
painting (a service available at any framer shop.) Prices include
shipping. Order online using the "Buy Now" buttons, or
contact me for a mailing address to
send a check or money order.

Mayflower's Dawn.
This painting was commissioned at my request, and was designed
especially for the cover of my book, The Mayflower and Her
Passengers. It depicts the Mayflower at
anchor off the tip of Cape Cod, the morning of November 11. The sun is
rising in the distance over the vicinity of Truro, the much closer shore of
Provincetown not being visible from this angle. Seamen are at work
readying the longboat and loosing the sails; a few passengers gaze out
for the first time at the land they will soon begin exploring. As a
special gift, when you buy this print you will also receive my new book,
Mayflower and Her Passengers, free of charge (even shipping is free)!

A
Prosperous Wind: The Mayflower Leaving English Shores.
One of my personal favorites, this painting depicts the Mayflower
leaving England on its final attempt after finally making the decision to
leave behind the Speedwell.
The ship left Plymouth, England on 6 September 1620. Available in two
prints, lithograph on paper (limited edition of 1000) or Giclée on canvas.

Pilgrim
Overboard.
During a storm on the Mayflower's voyage, passenger John Howland was
knocked overboard, but amazingly he was able to grab hold of a line to the
topsail halyards, giving the crew enough time to rescue him with a boat
hook. Howland's survival ensured he would live long enough to get
married and leave descendants: including presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt
and both George Bush's, poet Ralph Waldo Emerson, actors Humphrey Bogart and
Alec Baldwin, and Mormon church founder Joseph Smith, just to name a few!

Myles
Standish.
This beautifully done portrait is based on a couple of late 19th century
drawings and a black-and-white photo of the long-lost original portrait of
Myles Standish, believed to have been painted in 1634. Myles Standish
was Plymouth Colony's military captain for more than 30 years, and was one
of the founders of the town of Duxbury, Massachusetts. Outside of
Edward Winslow's portrait, this is the only other reasonably-authentic
portrait of a Mayflower passenger known to exist. This print is
16" x 20", unlike the others which are 32" x 22".
