Useful Addresses for
New England researchers

General Society of Mayflower Descendants, PO Box 3297, Plymouth MA 02361

NNRG-P, National Archives and Records Administration, 7th and Pennsylvania Ave NW , Washington DC 20408

Use this address to request the necessary forms to order the pension records of Revolutionary and Civil War veterans.

Massachusetts Archives at Columbia Point, 220 Morrissey Blvd, Boston MA 02125

Use this address to request vital records of Massachusetts for the years 1841-1900 only. They also accept requests for probate records, but it is my understanding they just forward the letter to the Supreme Judicial Court (address below).

Supreme Judicial Court, Archives & Records Preservation, 1300 New Court House, Boston MA 02108

Use this address to request Massachusetts probate records. Records start in the 1600s. Make sure to state the name and approximate date of death when requesting a probate record.  They will send you a bill which you must pay before they mail you the photocopies.  If your request is for an extremely old or "popular" record, they will refer you to microfilm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Examples of "popular" records are those of Mayflower passengers and early Plymouth Colony, or those relating to the Salem Witchcraft trials.

Connecticut State Library, Genealogy Unit, 231 Capitol Avenue, Hartford CT 06106

Use this address to request pre-1850 Connecticut vital records, and pre-1900 probate and land records.  They can also provide a list of genealogists who specialize in Connecticut research.

Public Records Office, Chancery Lane, London, WC2A 1LR, England

Use this address to write for copies of wills recorded with the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, or to obtain documents from the records of the High Court of Admiralty.  They can also provide a list of professional genealogists who work in England.

Genealogical Publishing Company, 1001 N Calvert St, Baltimore MD 21202

This company publishes thousands of genealogical books, some which are related to Mayflower passengers.  I have ordered several books from them and find they are a reliable mail order business.

Heritage Books Inc, 1540-E Pointer Ridge Pl, Bowie MD 20716

This company sells genealogical and historical books.  They also sell hard-bound volumes of the old Mayflower Descendant.  I have ordered several books from them and find they are a reliable mail order business.

Picton Press, PO Box 250, Rockport ME 04856-0250

This company sells genealogical and historical books. They sell Elizabeth P. White's books on John Howland's children Desire, and John. They also sell the Mayflower Families books which are also sold by the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. Also they sell bound volumes of The American Genealogist, an index to the New England Historical Genealogical Register, and many of the Massachusetts Vital Record books. They have a large variety of books relating to genealogy in Maine.  I have ordered several books from them and find they are a reliable mail order business.
