Biographical Summary
Robert Carter came on the Mayflower
as a servant (apprentice) to William Mullins, a shoemaker. Nothing
else is known of Robert, except that in William Mullins' will of 21
February 1620/1, he requests that John Carver and "Master Williamson"
(perhaps a pseudonym for William Brewster) look after him because he
"hath not so approved himself as I would he should have done."
There are a few Robert Carters of approximately the right age (I'm
guessing 13-18 years old) to be found in the parish registers in the
county of Surrey, where William Mullins was from, so perhaps one of
these may be the Mayflower passenger. Unfortunately the
name is quite common.
